Purpose of the Project

The main objective of the “MoReMED Student Congress” is to offer students in the medical and health
area the opportunity to become popularisers among peers, and not just mere users of scientific
research.
The Congress experience guarantees the possibility of expanding the educational offer provided by
the study plan of the Degree Course in Medicine and Surgery and the other Degree Courses in the
medical-health and biomedical area.
The purpose of the project is therefore to encourage the training and interest of students in fields of
specific extra-curricular importance, as well as to encourage the development of skills in the
autonomous research of scientific sources, in teamwork and in the effective communication of
scientifically reliable and proven information.
Methods of conduct of XI Edition
The XI Edition of the MoReMED Student Congress will be held in presence on April 16 and 17,
2026, at the Educational Services Centre of the UNIMORE Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, Via
Largo del Pozzo 71, Modena (MO).

Active Participants – Students EXHIBITORS

“Active Participants” or “Exhibitor Students” are students who intend to apply to present a work, or to
take part in one of the 24 slots known as the “Student Exhibition”.
Who can apply?
All students from the national territory among the following categories have the right to apply
as exhibitors:

  • Students regularly enrolled in the II, III, IV, V and VI year of the CdL in Medicine and
    Surgery
  • Students regularly enrolled in the III, IV, V and VI year of the CdL in Dentistry and Dental
    Prosthetics
  • Students regularly enrolled in the III Year of any Health Bachelor’s Degree Course
  • Students regularly enrolled in the III, IV and V year of the Master’s Degree Course in
    Pharmacy and CTF
  • Students regularly enrolled in Master’s Degree Courses in Biology in medical-health or
    biomedical
  • Students regularly enrolled in Master’s Degree Courses in Biotechnology in a medical-
    health or biomedical field
  • Recent graduate students in Medicine and Surgery graduated during the academic year
prior to the one in which the Congress will be held
  • Recent students in a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree Course in Health Professions,
graduated during the academic year preceding the one in which the Congress will be
    held

Applications are open to students of Medicine and Surgery and other medical-health and
biomedical Degree Courses, regularly enrolled in non-Italian universities.
Applications from student exhibitors who do not meet the aforementioned criteria will be
automatically discarded.

How to apply?

It is possible to apply as a single exhibitor or as a group, up to a maximum of 3 members.
It is not allowed for the same person to be part of several groups, nor for a group to present
more than one work.
Applications that do not comply with these parameters will be automatically discarded.

What work can be submitted?

It is important to consider the purpose of the project, that is, the expansion of the training offer
of the study plan of the Degree Course in Medicine and Surgery and related Degree Courses.
Therefore:
● For students of Medicine and Surgery, the development of extra-curricular themes or,
alternatively, specific and avant-garde in-depth studies of curricular themes is required.
● For students of Dentistry and Dental Prosthesis, Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees
Degrees in Health Professions, Experimental and Applied Biology, Medical
Biotechnology and Pharmacy and CTF, the presentation of works on shared themes
with the medical field is required.

What kind of applications are there?

It is possible to present two types of projects:

  • Original Article
  • Review Article

Original Article means an article recently published or not yet published, whose presentation
reports the results of a study carried out by the supervising doctor/teacher, in which the
candidate took part or had access to the data.
Review Article refers to a critical examination of the scientific literature on a given topic.
During registration, to be done through the forms available on the institutional channels of the
Congress (website www.moremed.unimore.it and Instagram account @congresso_moremed),
you will be asked to indicate the type of work.
The organisers will be sure to report in time any inconsistencies between the selected type and
the work presented, allowing candidates to relocate it correctly.

How does the application take place?
Within the registration form it will be necessary to insert:
● The data of the individual members
● The name of the doctor/teacher supervising the labour
● The abstract of one’s own work.
The maximum length limit of the abstract is 3000 characters, spaces included, to which an
essential bibliography must be added, including only the most significant references (maximum
3). The bibliography is not included in the number of characters.
Only abstracts written in Italian or English will be accepted.
To facilitate the writing of the abstract, we recommend that you consult the short guide “How
to write an abstract for MoReMED Congress”, available on the official website (How to Write an
Abstract for MoReMED Congress.pdf )
The registration form will be available from November 24, 2025 on the institutional channels of
the Congress (website www.moremed.unimore.it and Instagram account
@congresso_moremed).

How does the selection process work?

The abstract will be evaluated by a “Selection Committee” composed of Professors from the
University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.
The following criteria will be taken into consideration during the selection process:

  • The scientific approach adopted
  • The contribution to the expansion of the training offer
  • Congruence with the purposes of the project (see points 1 and 2.3)
Among the Original Articles, with equal merit, the papers already in the advanced stage of
development at the time of the application will be preferred, which provide convincing data to
    support one’s hypothesis.
In addition, with equal merit, priority will be given to the work of students over those of recent
    graduates.

Only the following information will be transmitted to the Selection Committee: title, abstract,
type of article, University and Degree Course. To ensure a completely unbiassed evaluation, the
names of candidates or tutors will not be provided.
If the tutor of a candidate exhibiting student was part of the Selection Committee, he would
refrain from evaluating the corresponding abstract.
The Selection Committee is composed of a odd number of Professors, in order to guarantee a
certain outcome of the evaluation. In the event that the tutor of a candidate student exhibitor
was part of the Selection Committee and, having to abstain, there was a parity in the outcome,

the final evaluation would be up to the President of the Degree Course in Medicine and Surgery-
UNIMORE.

In case of non-confirmation of participation by the authors, we will proceed with the choice of
subsequent works in the ranking.
Accepted abstracts will be published on the Congress website with the names of the authors
and their respective tutors.

Selection results

The Congress provides a total of 24 exhibition slots for Active Participants:

  • 14 in Plenary Session
  • 10 in Poster Session
The 14 works evaluated as the best will be presented by the authors in Plenary Session.
The next 10 works in the ranking will be displayed by poster in a dedicated area.
Consistent with the applications received, in all sessions more space will be allocated to Original
    Articles rather than Review Articles.
For the preparation of the scientific poster, the guide “How to prepare a scientific poster for
MoReMED Congress” is available, available on our official website ( How to prepare a scientific
    poster for MoReMED Congress.pdf).

Deadlines

Applications for Active Participants will open on Monday, November 24, 2025, at 00.00 and
close on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 23:59.
The rankings will be communicated no later than Tuesday, March 10, 2026.
Students and groups selected for the Plenary Session must send the final PowerPoint file of
their presentation, written entirely in English, to the e-mail address moremed@unimore.it.

The sending of the material in the manner and in the formats indicated above is a mandatory
and non-rerogable requirement for the purpose of participation in the Congress.
The Organising Committee reserves the right, without question, to extend the aforementioned
deadlines up to a maximum of two weeks. Any extension will be made known with at least
seven days’ notice with respect to the original expiration date, through official communication
on the institutional channels of the Congress (website www.moremed.unimore.it and
Instagram account @congresso_moremed).

Exposure

The students’ exhibition in Plenary Session will take place in person on Thursday 16 and Friday
17 April 2026, at the Didactic Services Centre of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery
UNIMORE.
Each student, or group of students, will have a maximum of 12 minutes to present their paper,
followed by 3 minutes of discussion.
Compliance with the times provided is mandatory, under penalty of interruption of the current
exhibition.
The oral presentation may be made, at the discretion of the speaker, in Italian or in English. The
choice of language does not involve any variation, no penalty, nor attribution of additional
scores in the final evaluation.
Working groups can be composed of a minimum of one (1) and a maximum of three (3)
components. The exhibition may be held by one or more members of the working group, at
their discretion, provided that all members of the group originally selected by the Selection
Committee.
In case of impediment of one or more members, the presentation by a single member of the
group is allowed, without the possibility of replacement with external subjects or not indicated
in the application.

The use of personal computers or external devices will not be allowed for the projection of the
presentations. The presentations will be projected exclusively by the computers made available
by the Organising Committee at the Aula Magna of the Service Centre, where the Plenary
Session will take place.
The Poster Session will take place in person, at the Didactic Services Centre of the UNIMORE
Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, Via Largo del Pozzo 71, Modena (MO)
It is recalled that the event will be broadcast live on the YouTube channel of the MoReMED
Student Congress and that the Abstracts and Posters of the Student Exhibitors will later be
published on the official website of the Congress.
Sending the application implies the acceptance of the recovery and dissemination of one’s
image during the event.

Assessment

In the Plenary Session, the papers will have their own Evaluation Committees, which will judge
the works on the basis of different parameters: exhibition correctness, communicative
effectiveness, rigour of the presentation and quality of the Power-Point presentation.
For more information, we recommend reading “Exhibitor Students Evaluation Criteria – Plenary
Session”, on our official website (Exhibitor Students Evaluation Criteria – Plenary Session.pdf ).
In the Poster Session, a special Evaluation Committee will judge the works on the basis of the
following parameters: exhibition correctness, communicative effectiveness and poster quality.
For more information, we recommend reading “Exhibitor Students Evaluation Criteria – Poster
Session”, present on our official website(Exhibitor Students Evaluation Criteria – Poster
Session.pdf).
In order to ensure maximum fairness between the two Sessions, Plenary and Poster, the final
score will be expressed in standardised form.

This score will be calculated from the raw score assigned by the Evaluation Committee. A z-
score will be calculated for each category under consideration (see note below).

The standardised final score of each exhibitor will be equal to the sum of the z-scores achieved
in the different categories, multiplied by 20 and increased by 100, so as to allow the formulation
of the final ranking.
In case of equal score, the priority in the ranking will be assigned, in order, on the basis of the
following criteria:

If the parity persists, prioritise the category “PowerPoint Presentation Quality” (for the
Plenary Session) or “Poster Quality” (for the Poster Session).
NOTE: the z-score will be calculated according to the formula:
Z=(x-μ)/δ
x= score of the single exhibitor in the category considered
μ = arithmetic average of the scores obtained by all the exhibitors evaluated by the same Committee in
the category considered
δ = standard deviation of the scores obtained by all the exhibitors evaluated by the same Committee in
the category considered

Awards

The awards will be held during the second Congress Day and will be divided by type of work:
the best works between the Plenary Session and the Poster Session will be awarded.
